Truck campers are recreational vehicles that are very versatile. Truck
campers have different classifications:
*Clamshell
As its name suggests, this class of truck camper has a clamshell construction.
Bigfoot and Northern Lite are two of the leading manufacturers of clamshell
truck campers in Canada. The clamshell truck camper is made of two fiberglass
shells that are joined horizontally at the center.
*Hardside Filon, Wood Framed
This class of truck camper typically uses fir as wood framing. It has a Filon
finish, which is a thin layer of fiberglass on a wood backing.
*Hardside Filon, Aluminum Framed
This class of truck camper uses aluminum as frame and has a Filon finish.
*Hardside Aluminum
This class of truck camper uses either wood or aluminum for framing and has an
aluminum siding finish.
*Pop-Up
This class of truck camper is designed in such a way that it minimizes weight
and wind resistance. A pop-up truck camper is a low-profile truck camper and it
can be constructed using hardside filon with wood framing or aluminum framing or
hardside aluminum. The roof of a pop-up track camper can be mechanically raised
to add height and space. There are two types of pop-up truck campers. The first
type has soft walls that are made of fabric, either canvas or Weblon, and the
second type has hard walls, with a solid frame. Soft-walled pop-up truck campers
include the Hallmark, Northstar and Outfitter, while the Alaskan Camper is a
good example of a hard-walled pop-up truck camper.
*Campers with Slides
This class of truck campers features one or more movable sections of walls. The
sections are called "slides" and they add more space in the truck camper. Only
truck campers with a frame construction can have slides. Some campers with
slides only have a dinette while there are full wall slides that can have a
dinette, fridge and other appliances. Adventurer, Arctic Fox, Host, Lance,
Okanagan and Snow River are a few companies that make campers with slides.
